We are the Griffin Family. We love to travel and find new adventures. We have been on over 12 cruises as a family and have seen too many countries to count. Our adventure with Type 1 Diabetes began in March 2006 when our then two-year-old daughter was diagnosed at Children’s Hospital in Denver and we began treatment at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes. Nothing can prepare a family for Type 1 Diabetes, but the doctors, nurses and staff at the Barbara Davis Center made it a lot easier to handle.

We have come a long way since those days and nights of shots, finger pokes and strict carb rules. We were among the first to get the Omnipod pumping system and again to receive the Dexcom as a child. Our daughter participated in multiple research studies for both systems, helping the doctors at the Barbara Davis Center research new and improved treatment methods. We have received support from others and been support for others. Until you live with this every day it’s hard to fully understand what it means to have Type 1 Diabetes in your life.

We are partnering with The Children’s Diabetes Foundation, Breakthrough T1D Pacific Northwest (formerly JDRF) and other smaller T1D nonprofits to put on this great adventure. The Children’s Diabetes Foundation and Breakthrough T1D are non-profit organizations dedicated solely to the support of research in diabetes and to provide the best possible clinical and educational programs for people with the disease and hopefully one day, cure T1D. The Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes, funded by the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, provides a clinical service for children, adolescents and young adults with type 1 diabetes and the Center supports substantial clinical and basic science research programs to prevent and ultimately cure this chronic life-threatening disease.

Along the way we have met so many great people through the Children’s Diabetes Foundation and JDRF. For several years we have volunteered and attended the Children’s Diabetes Foundation and JDRF fundraising events, including the CDF Carousel Ball and Spring Fashion Luncheons and numerous JDRF One Walks and galas. Our daughter has gotten to meet so many amazing people and shared her story to help them understand a little bit about why the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, JDRF and the Barbara Davis Center are so important.

That’s why we started this cruise. To join up with other families for support, comfort, celebration and just plain family fun. It’s like diabetes camp and a family vacation in one! Plus, for every cabin purchased, we will donate to one of our T1D nonprofit partners to further fund the exciting care and research.

Join us in June 2026, for a whole new kind of adventure.
